Speech & Language Therapy
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP's) specialize in the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders (speech and language impairments), social skills, cognitive-communication, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders. SLP's support students in individual or group settings to improve their overall communication skills to enhance academic performance.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy (OT) is a type of health care that helps to solve the problems that interfere with a person’s ability to do everyday things, such as:
Self-care - getting dressed, eating, moving around school/the house, clothing, daily tasks
Being productive - going to school, participating in the community, engaging with peers
Leisure activities - sports, walking/running, kicking/jumping, social activities.
Education - Visual tracking, cutting, drawing, hand writing, keyboarding.
School Social Work
School Social Workers (SSW's) provide services to students who are experiencing difficulties within their environment, which may impact their school functioning. School Social Workers may provide the following services:
- Consultation with school administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents
- Individual or group counselling and support to students
- Parent and school staff education programs and presentations
- Referral services/collaboration with community agencies
School Psychology
School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.
Special Education Coordinator
As an integral part of a school’s instructional leadership team, the special education coordinator is responsible for overseeing programs that provide educational assistance to children with mental, psychological, learning, behavioral, or physical disabilities. With the goal of facilitating the special education processes that are needed to maximize the growth potential of students with exceptional learning needs, special education coordinators are highly trained and experienced educators. They also focus on ensuring that schools are meeting compliance standards related to state and federal regulations.
